Robot James lands.. thus the world is secure

I was informed this evening that Robot James had landed, direct from planet Robot.. hey, he's four...

We were treated to the various methods that were used to protect this planet, from the magic hunting knife to the "heavy" hammer, the primary weapons that Robot James employs from his arsenal. Unfortunately for our dogs, they have been deemed "anti robot pixie dogs" and therefore the ultimate enemies of mankind and so must be destroyed. They all wound up under my bed hiding from their newly landed overlord... great.

Upon further investigation it seems that Robot James also employs the dread "snap" explosives to confuse the anti robot pixie beasts, then uses his summoner to call in reinforcements, drawn from their home planet by the dazzling bright light...

Sometimes if you just give in and let the imagination of a child run all over you, traveling from one planet to another is as simple as being quiet and letting them drive the logic and reason train for a while...

Abortion... A small rant

On every corner of every street on the internet, there is a soap box.... Upon said soap box there is someone spewing forth a commentary that they feel is worth listening to, this then is my soap box. I stand here to talk, maybe some will listen, maybe most wont.

I ran across a blog that I shall not name, nor shall I link to, lest more people fall victim to this disgusting asshole... There is very little out there that can offend me, but this one did it. I wont even get into content.

To take a position on a subject is what people do, to argue that position with people that do not agree with you is what comes naturally. To debate your position in hopes of changing minds can be a noble endeavor, but to simply insult people, I just do not get.

Seems this blogger is an educated individual, which makes it all the more ridiculous. I read through several exchanges she had with people dumb enough to leave comments.

The sad part about it is that open debate on any given subject can be quite entertaining. If you are going to take the time to bring it up, why not engage in serious discussion about the topic? The topic in question that brought me to the blog was abortion.. A topic that brings forth rabid folk anyway, but again, why can't it be discussed in a serious, civil manner?

We all know that you can't really debate a matter of opinion, yet it's within these same debates that the most interesting times can be had. These are real opportunities to treat with people from all walks of life, to share views and opinions with those that we do not agree with, so why get three steps into it and begin insulting everyone? That seems nonsensical to me, a waste of effort.

I love to sit around a dinner table and engage in a lively debate over such issues over the course of an evening, but to borrow a phrase from Julie.."There's always one asshole that takes it a bit too far.." Yet, in most cases, that is a risk I'm willing to take...

How long could you make it without tossing out an insult?

My opinion on the matter goes like this... I do not agree with abortion, I think the legality of the issue should be left up to individual states and put on an actual ballot.. (frightening thing for socialists... letting the populace actually decide an issue...) While I feel like abortion is really used as an expensive method of birth control, which is a sad state of affairs in my opinion, I think that it should be legal, for that all too rare - actual case of rape, danger to the mother, or molestation. Bad situations can actually be avoided by abstinence, or use of a condom... either one is cheap & fairly simple...

So on to it then... What do you think about abortion?

A season in ....

The weather has gone cold, windy, and disgusting. We are getting close to being locked into the season of death for a while, and I am not looking forward to it at all. Once upon a time I looked forward to this time of year for many reasons, Christmas being the most obvious. If it weren’t for the holiday I would be tempted to pack it in and hibernate until the warm weather returns. The look of expectancy in the eyes of the kids mixed with a bit of magic keeps me heading forward.

Cold was once a reason for me to rejoice and feel hyper, desiring to go places and do things. These days I just want cover up and drink coffee, how could I ever have looked forward to this mess? Leaves, limbs and general debris waiting to be gathered, when all you want to do is read something good.. anything good, it doesn’t matter what it is…

With Thanksgiving weekend being nothing but a big drizzle fest in search of soul after soul to claim, this season has already gotten me to the point of being just plain old angry. Sleep seems to creep in at every opening… yet for some reason offers little in the way of rest or comfort.

I cant wait to get the tree up and spank my kids as they fuss and argue during the entire process.. and yes, get in trouble myself… I am actually looking forward to Christmas this year, some good warm family moments. I keep looking forward to the quiet evening of Christmas eve when the kids are asleep, everything is set and my wife and I can settle in to watch the George C. Scott version of a Christmas Carol, which is my favorite movie version.

I know the cure for the anger, it’s simple, indeed too simple… I’m thinking of making the Alabama state line run for some real fireworks so we can attack one another as it should be around Christmas, I really need to teach my kids the finer points of aiming the roman candles for maximum damage.. James is about to turn five, which is just about right for his introduction into the world of small explosions… Patrick has been shown, yet he still lacks the proper experience of a full on fight til you drop battle through the woods with explosives and firearms… That is something I think should happen this year, a big messy battle… The time has come…

So it’s time to swallow the bullshit, flip off the assholes, and have some fun, some good old fashioned blood, guns, fire trucks, and ambulance fun..

Hen Revisited

I was reading a post by Fermi in which she was discussing a balanced life, between all things that comprise that which you consider to be on your plate. The post made me stop for a second and consider the balance I have in my own life.

What is there, is just there. I don't think it's ever entered my mind in any way. What sort of balance are people looking for? A balance between home, social & work lives?

At what point in life do these questions appear? I've heard people talk about these things before, but never considered them. Much as the phraseology, "finding myself"... I've heard it, but never thought about it, I understand it, but always placed it in the useless banter to justify actions category.

When things happen, large or small you just deal with it. Children? You do your best, Work, Spouses.. all of it, you just get up each day and go forward in a zombie like state doing what you can, and enjoying life as much as possible. The only key to me or constant rather, is love.

Seems to me that love is what makes it all worth it. Would I rather stay in bed every morning? Sure, who wouldn't... Would it be easier to skive off the kids as much as possible, either to a relative or have the older one babysit the younger one & take off for a night of well earned debauchery.. Sure, but damn.. I want to see them as much as possible, yes.. even when they are being completely impossible and requiring discipline every ten minutes..

Work? When the schedule calls for it you work late, travel or do what you have to... but then you work as a team to just deal with it. To me, all these things seem like life, you don't ask, you just do it... you go for what you want and keep up with what you have...

Like I said, it seems that love is what holds it all together and keeps it going forward. There is a time and place for everything. Yet you just seem to realize as time goes by that playing the grass is greener game is pretty fucking useless. Materialism, envy, jealousy, and hatred weed themselves out at a rapid pace when you simply look at whats around you and learn to appreciate it for what it is, your life, your very own little world.

To find this ever elusive "balance" just takes a second.. just a crystal clear moment of reality that lets you know that you don't have to be a bastard, a bitch or an asshole to those around you. You just love them. The folk that aren't worth a damn out themselves as such and move away leaving your path clear for nothing but bliss. And that, well that's a pretty good place to be.
