A season in ....

The weather has gone cold, windy, and disgusting. We are getting close to being locked into the season of death for a while, and I am not looking forward to it at all. Once upon a time I looked forward to this time of year for many reasons, Christmas being the most obvious. If it weren’t for the holiday I would be tempted to pack it in and hibernate until the warm weather returns. The look of expectancy in the eyes of the kids mixed with a bit of magic keeps me heading forward.

Cold was once a reason for me to rejoice and feel hyper, desiring to go places and do things. These days I just want cover up and drink coffee, how could I ever have looked forward to this mess? Leaves, limbs and general debris waiting to be gathered, when all you want to do is read something good.. anything good, it doesn’t matter what it is…

With Thanksgiving weekend being nothing but a big drizzle fest in search of soul after soul to claim, this season has already gotten me to the point of being just plain old angry. Sleep seems to creep in at every opening… yet for some reason offers little in the way of rest or comfort.

I cant wait to get the tree up and spank my kids as they fuss and argue during the entire process.. and yes, get in trouble myself… I am actually looking forward to Christmas this year, some good warm family moments. I keep looking forward to the quiet evening of Christmas eve when the kids are asleep, everything is set and my wife and I can settle in to watch the George C. Scott version of a Christmas Carol, which is my favorite movie version.

I know the cure for the anger, it’s simple, indeed too simple… I’m thinking of making the Alabama state line run for some real fireworks so we can attack one another as it should be around Christmas, I really need to teach my kids the finer points of aiming the roman candles for maximum damage.. James is about to turn five, which is just about right for his introduction into the world of small explosions… Patrick has been shown, yet he still lacks the proper experience of a full on fight til you drop battle through the woods with explosives and firearms… That is something I think should happen this year, a big messy battle… The time has come…

So it’s time to swallow the bullshit, flip off the assholes, and have some fun, some good old fashioned blood, guns, fire trucks, and ambulance fun..

There's nothing more fun than a good roman candle / bottle rocket fight!
