Bless Up

When the day turns out to be one of those long, drawn out affairs where Mr. Murphy is proving to be a worthy adversary. It comes as a definite heart warming event to arrive home to a surprise from a very special voice in the Caribbean.

Lady Roots was kind enough to bestow upon me a rare gift of talent and love today. As I walked in the door Patrick met me and told me that a "guy came here today and made me sign for a package all the way from Jamaica!" When he handed it to me, a smile broke out across a weary face. When I opened it and saw the bracelet she had sent me I was very touched.

I send a very heart felt thank you to you Lady Roots for your gift of talent and your message of truth. Thank you, Sistren, thank you indeed. Your gift shall certainly be repaid in kind.

If you cant make out the envelope in the photograph the message is

"Idren Clay,

I said a prayer as I chose each bead, for Jah to meet your every need. Wisdom, compassion and vibrant health. For these are measures of true wealth.
Bless Up, Lady Roots"

How can you not end your day with a grin after receiving such a bold and loving gift as this? The only dilemma I face now is that I truly don't know which item to cherish more, the bracelet or the envelope...

While I would treasure them both as gifts from the heart the envelope would be the most precious to me. I would love to learn how you do what you do Lady Roots..it's beautiful.

Idren Clay,

You are most welcome! I am so glad to know your bracelet reached safely and that you like it. I was touched that you thought of the envelope as a gift. Because of customs inspections, I don't invest a lot into fancy packaging.

When worn as shown in your blog picture, with the green beads on top, it means you are at peace. If you turn the red side to the top, it indicates war.

I appreciate that you took the time to say thanks. Surprisingly, not everyone remembers their manners. (Brought-upsy or home training is what we call manners here in rural Jamaica.)

Sistren Jules,
Your words are a gift! Thanks! I did go to the myspace page for Crick Hollow to see your jewelry. Nice work! I am a self-taught beader.

Bless Up,
Lady Roots

That's an awesome gift! If I had one to wear over the past fifteen years, the green side would have rarely been up. Things are different now.
I think I shall go visit her blog.

Like Jules, I would treasure them both, but would definitely put the envelope in a safe [water- and critterproof] place. Most people don't write by hand anymore, and for someone to take the time to inscribe their thoughts in such an unexpected way - definitely a keeper.

What a lovely bracelet-Lady Roots is such a wonderful person, so soulful and kind with her art, words and thoughts. I came to your blog through her site.

I was blessed enough to meet her and her husband while visiting in Jamaica earlier this year. She drove quite some way to meet me as we had communicated by email for several months. We are soul sisters forever now!

I really enjoyed reading the story about your early rise in search of hunters. Beautiful words and it brought me to the space you described so well.

Thanks for sharing!

I was very surprised when the delivery woman showed up with the package. I first thouhgt that it was some kind of mistake, but then my dad smiled and told me not to worry about it. That it was from a friend of his. It is very nice and I can tell that alot of work wass put into it.

Idren Patrick,

At your tender age, you can not possibly know how blessed you are to have the loving parents you have. They love each other, love thier children and love their lives.

Your father, Idren Clay, loved his father and loves you (and James). Multi-generational father love is rare here in Jamaica.

Cherish your family and love them, even when they annoy you to your wits end.

Thanks for the compliment on the bracelet.

Bless Up,
Lady Roots
